Cabaret registrants have the opportunity to meet with their guest artists following “Meet the Artists” at 4pm on Sunday afternoon, July 13, to get acquainted during the Chancellor’s Reception in the Great Hall OR go to class on Monday. Cabaret Classes
Instructors: Celaire and Drotos
There will be two classes, each of which will be open (no audition) to the first 12 to register. 69) 10:00am-12:00noon, M-F, Both Weeks $175 70) 5:00-7:00pm; M-F, Week I, M-Th, Week II $175
Students must bring the sheet music for two songs they have memorized. Songs can be from the following genres: Broadway, jazz, folk, country, and “The Great American Songbook.” These classes will provide opportunities for singers at all levels. Emphasis will include interpreting lyrics, phrasing and rubato, tempos, setting one’s key, stage, presence, patter, microphone technique and song interpretation—all with an emphasis on developing one’s own personal style. 71) Fundamentals of Music — Using piano as the tool $100
Instructor: Drotos
1:30-3:00pm, M-F, Week I; M-Th, Week II
Open to the first 20 to register. This class will cover basic theory, as well as beginning piano. This is a valuable class for singers and instrumentalists who want to further their understanding of music. Topics covered will include scales, chords, musical form, basic composition and improvisation.
Jaunelle R. Celaire • Fairbanks, AK Voice and Cabaret
Jaunelle Celaire, lyric soprano, is the assistant Professor of Voice at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. She enjoys a musical career as a soloist, conductor and performer. She was featured on the recording of The Second Anthology of Art Songs by African American Composers. She has made appearances throughout Brazil, Canada and Europe singing varied repertoire from opera to cabaret.
Ron Drotos • New York, NY Cabaret; Fundamentals of Music
Ron Drotos is active in New York City as a composer, arranger and pianist. Broadway credits include Swinging On A Star, Smokey Joe’s Café and The Life. Drotos is regularly featured as musical director on the 92nd Street Y’s famed Lyrics and Lyricists series. He has performed with vocalists such as Nell Carter and Julius LaRosa in venues from the Blue Note to Carnegie Hall.
