Harp registrants have the opportunity to meet with their guest artists following “Meet the Artists” at 4:00pm on Sunday afternoon, July 13, to get acquainted during the Chancellor’s Reception in the Great Hall OR go to the first class on Monday. 23) Harp Classes for Kids! — Instructor: Lindner $225
10:00am-12:00noon, M-F, Both Weeks
This energetic class will focus on ensemble, arranging, experimentation, and musicianship. Reading music is required.
24) Harp: Non-Pedal Ensemble — Instructor: Lindner $150
1:15-2:45pm, M-F, Both Weeks
This lively class will offer instantly playable music in a variety of
genres. Daily technical exercises will enhance learning and will
promote satisfaction in making music on the harp. Reading is required.
25) Harp: Pedal Class — Instructor: Lindner $150
3:00-4:30pm, M-F, Both Weeks
This fun class will improve ensemble playing and musicianship. It will offer a variety of musical genres and styles. Reading music is required.
26) Harp: Airs and Songs of the Celts for Harp — $150
Instructor: Richards
2:45-4:00pm, M-F, Both Weeks
This class will learn some of the haunting airs and lovely songs of the traditional Irish and Scottish cultures. Some repertoire will be taught aurally with music passed out later. The last class will be a review of all tunes.
27) Harp: Irish and Scottish Session for Multi-Instruments* $150
Instructor: Richards 4:30-6:00pm, M-F, Both Weeks
This class will give you a chance to try playing your favorite instrument with other musicians. Irish and Scottish tunes will be taught aurally with music passed out at the end of class. We will discuss session etiquette, chords and accompaniment – appropriate to all who participate.
28) Harp: Dance Music of the Celts for Harp $150
Instructor: Richards 6:30-7:45pm, M-F, Both Weeks
Jigs, reels, hornpipes and strathspeys are only a few of the kinds of tunes we will learn in this class period. We will also learn about ornaments, vocables, rhythm and a few exercises for playing faster.
Jenny Lindner • Portland, OR Classical Harp
Jenny Lindner has played the harp since 1966. She has studied with Marion Fouse of Portland, Eileen Malone of the Eastman School of Music, and Catherine Michel, Marie-Claire Jamet and Pierre Jamet in Paris. She currently plays Principal Harp with the Portland Opera and the Oregon Ballet Theatre, and frequently with the Oregon Symphony.
Sue Richards • Rockville, MD Celtic Harp
Sue Richards is a four-time U.S. National Scottish Harp Champion, and is the founder of the very active Washington, DC area’s Folk Harp Society and the Scottish Harp Society of America. She won the Bunting Commemorative Competition of Irish Music in 1992, and spends much of her time performing and adjudicating at harp competitions and workshops across the U.S.
