Healing Arts registrants have the opportunity to meet with their guest artists following “Meet the Artists” at 4:00pm on Sunday afternoon, July 13, to get acquainted during the Chancellor’s Reception in the Great Hall OR go to their first class on Monday. Please Note: The maximum registration fee – regardless of how many classes you select – is only $550. See the registration form for discounts available. QUESTIONS? Workshops

77) Healing Arts: Taoist Tai Chi $50
Instructor: Nebert
8:00-9:00am, M-F, Both Weeks
Open to the first 30 persons to register.
Taoist Tai Chi is a series of relaxed, fluid movements providing a full-range of motion along with slow, sustained stretching to gently exercise all joints and muscles. This stretching alternates with full muscle contraction to relieve tension and improve muscle tone.

Students may register for both Yoga and Balance classes.
Open to the first 20 students to register for each class.

Learn precise guidelines for safe, effective stretches to relieve stress, increase flexibility and gain strength. Yoga in Balance is based on natural alignment and maximum relaxation.

Experience the strengthening principles of Balance in your daily yoga practice, no matter what style. Everyone will be given individual feedback. Recommended for students with previous yoga experience and an interest in natural alignment.

Discover the secrets of balanced posture, both in your daily life and your profession. Balance is based on the study of people from around the world who remain flexible, strong and straight as they age. Learn to align your bones as you sit, bend, stand and walk for optimal, pain-free living.

82) Healing Arts: Introduction to Meditation $125
Instructor: Pomar
5:30-7:00pm, M-Th, Both Weeks
Pomar will guide participants through meditation (silent, too ) to expedite healing, inner peace and inspiration. Participants will experience relaxation and increased inspiration in the media of their choice, as well as increased general well-being.

Balanced Posture and Yoga in Balance
Jean Couch is the author of The Runners Yoga Book. She taught yoga for several years and co-hosted Yoga for Today in the Bay Area. However, Balance revolutionized her teaching with new knowledge about fitness based on populations who have no back or joint paint. She has been the Director of the Balance Center in Palo Alto (www.balancecenter.com) since 1991.
Guest Artist Gordon Engel, MD • San Francisco, CA
Musculoskeletal Specialist
Festival registrants have the unique opportunity to seek counsel with Dr. Gordon Engel. Well-known throughout the Bay area, he is consultant to the UCSF Health Program for Performing Artists and is the Senior Consultant and Hand Surgeon with Kaiser Permanente, Northern California. Dr. Engel encourages performers to go to the Festival Office to make an appointment to see him early.

Balanced Posture and Yoga in Balance
Kay Hackney is a Certified Balance teacher and has studied with Jean Couch since 1998. She began yoga studies in 1977, was certified as an Iyengar teacher in 1995 and studied in India in 1997.  She is a registered yoga teacher and in 1992 established Interior Yoga in Fairbanks. www.interioryoga.com
Guest Artist Mary Nebert • Fairbanks, AK
Taoist Tai Chi
Mary Nebert is a nationally accredited instructor in the Taoist Tai Chi Society of the USA. She has been practicing Taoist Tai Chi since 2003 and has participated in instructor workshops at the International Taoist Tai Chi Center in Orangeville, Ontario. Like all instructors in the Society, she volunteers her time to teach and promote the health-improving aspect of Taoist Tai Chi.
Guest Artist Barbara Pomar • Rancho Mirage, CA
Intro to Meditation
Barbara Pomar has studied meditation since 1970. Besides her degree in clinical psychology, she is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist with advanced training in gestalt-type regression work. She is also Board Certified as a Regression Therapist by the International Board of Regression Therapy. She has conducted workshops and led meditation groups for 16 years, having offices in both Alaska and California.
Guest Artist Mary Sinclair • Columbus, OH
Balanced Posture and Yoga in Balance
Mary Sinclair is on the faculty of Yoga on High, a nationally renowned yoga center in Columbus, OH. She holds certifications in yoga, prenatal yoga and Balance. She is also an active, licensed massage therapist. She completed a three-year certification program in Balance Training with Jean Couch. Her enthusiastic style and gracious manner embody the principles of yoga and natural alignment. www.yogaonhigh.com
