Guest Artist Marvilla Davis • Fairbanks, AK
Voice; Conductor: Women’s Ensemble
Marvilla Davis founded the internationally recognized Alaska Chamber Chorale which performed in 1998, 2003 and 2006 for the American Choral Directors Association regional and national Conventions. She is a faculty member of the UAF music department where she teaches advanced choral conducting and techniques and private voice. Active as a guest conductor, clinician, and soprano soloist, her voice students have consistently taken honors at state competitions.
Guest Artist Byron McGilvray • Athens, TX
Voice; Conductor: Men’s Ensemble
Byron McGilvray was honored by the California American Choral Directors Association with the distinguished Swan Award as “. . . an individual who has made remarkable contributions to choral music, music education and professional leadership in California and the world.” Professor Emeritus of S.F.S.U., McGilvray has inspired many people since first coming to the Festival in 1981.
Guest Artist Scott R. Peterson • Yakima, WA
Conductor Chamber Chorale and Festival Chorus

Please Note:  Dr. Scott Peterson's father recently passed away, and Dr. Peterson will not be available to attend the Festival this summer. Our thoughts are with the Peterson family.

In trying to decide what to do, we requested guidance from many local people involved with the Festival’s vocal program, and we have reluctantly decided that at this late date, it would be best to cancel both Festival Chamber Chorale and Festival Chorus this summer.  Dr. Peterson would like to return in 2009. We will consider continuing these choral groups next year if the interest is there.

In the meantime, the Festival Board would like to encourage vocal registrants to consider selecting other Festival classes. One Chamber Chorale registrant has decided to take the Athabascan Beadwork class – something she wouldn’t ever ‘find’ in her community!

A reminder to teachers: You can take Festival classes for UAF credit to renew your certificates! See page 15 in the catalog or refer to the Festival’s web site: www.fsaf.org
