2010 Poster Art

This year's Poster Art winner is New Arrival, by Dee Carpenter (website; Flickr page). From the artist:

“New Arrival” began as an experiment in creating background texture. I like combining realism and impressionism. I will often paint a background without a plan just to play and see what will develop.

My inspiration comes from observing birds and other wildlife. Painting birds is one way of translating my appreciation of them. When I see a chickadee all fluffed up from the cold, I notice how their individual feathers look. I am then driven to try to recreate that with paint.

I've been part of the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival since 2005. I thrive on two weeks of all day classes. It's the perfect fit for me because if I am not learning, I'm not happy.

Dee has a large collection of artwork for sale in her booth at the Tanana Valley Farmer's Market. She sets up her booth on Saturday and Sunday as her schedule permits.
