Jaunelle Celaire

Jaunelle Celaire

Opera Artistic Director

Jaunelle is the Professor of Voice at UAF and received her DMA from the University of Michigan in 2003. She stays busy with her voice studio at UAF along with conducting the University Chorus on campus. Other classes include voice methods and singer's diction. Jaunelle is a recitalist and debuted with the Anchorage Opera, singing the role of Micaela in Carmen.


Timothy Cheek

Timothy Cheek

Vocal coach and pianist Timothy Cheek is Associate Professor of Performing Arts at the University of Michigan. There he serves as music director of Opera Workshop, teaches French, German, and Italian lyric diction classes, and is a coach for opera productions. He is also an Associate Faculty member of the university’s Center for Russian and East European Studies, and teaches a Czech Vocal Literature course for singers and pianists. Dr. Cheek has performed as a collaborative pianist in recitals and opera in eighteen countries on four continents, and has been heard on radio and television programs around the world.

Lorna Eder received her doctorate degree in keyboard collaborative arts from the University of Southern California in May 2012. She came from Los Angeles to Fairbanks in January 2011 to join the UAF music faculty as the department collaborative pianist. She keeps very busy at UAF and in the community accompanying, coaching and teaching piano.


Rebecca Grimes

Rebecca Grimes

Stage Director

Rebecca Renfro Grimes possesses a versatile artistry that spans from teaching to directing to performing. Her directing credits include Lone Star Lyric Opera, Greater Worcester Opera, Opera del West, University of Connecticut Opera Theater, and Sam Houston State University Opera, where she is a member of the faculty. Under Dr. Grimes’ leadership, SHSU Opera Workshop has been nationally recognized, with National Opera Association competition awards for both scenes and production work in 2012 and 2014. The ensemble was awarded The American Prize in Collegiate Opera in the Fall of 2014.


Chris Meerdink

Chris Meerdink

Voice

Christopher Meerdink is the founder of the Singers Consortia, and the president of Young People's Musical Theater. Some of his roles include: Tamino in The Magic Flute, Nanki-Poo in The Mikado, the tenor roles in Handel's Messiah, Schubert's Mass in G, Mozart's Regina Coeli, and Haydn's Mass in Time of War. Dr. Meerdink is an Assistant Professor at West Texas A&M University. He is recorded on the NAXOS label.
