DescriptionThis workshop will explore papermaking and paper casting. Participants will learn the basics of western papermaking by creating sheets from abaca pulp. The workshop will focus on using line to create patterns in a relief cast and a three-dimensional sculpture. The sculpture will be made using an armature made from local birch and willow branches that will be covered with wet sheets of paper and when dried forms a skin over the textured branches. In addition to casting and sculptural works participants will use fresh and dried local plant materials to create designs in sheets of handmade paper.
