Jazz Masterclass: Trumpet

Do you play trumpet and want to improve your jazz styling and techniques? Come join Chris Foster to play some examples and learn how to better fit into a jazz ensemble, big band, or just solo jazz. Bring examples of things you are working on and wish to get some feedback on, or just bring yourself and your horn to play some provided examples and work on jazz technique. 

Dr. Christopher Foster is a trumpet performer, educator, and conductor based in Vermont. An active freelance musician, he performs with ensembles including the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Vermont Jazz Ensemble, and Four Tops, with a repertoire spanning classical, jazz, and contemporary genres. Previously a college professor for 11 years and public school band director, he now specializes in early childhood music education as a certified Music Together® and Rhythm Kids instructor.

Dr. Foster holds a DMA in Trumpet Performance and Wind Conducting from the University of North Texas, along with degrees from the University of Nevada, Reno. His performing credits include principal trumpet with the Ruby Mountain Symphony, Reno Philharmonic, and recordings with the UNT Wind Symphony. An active clinician and adjudicator, he has conducted community ensembles and festival bands across multiple states.
