Biography

Kathryn Hoffer, a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, recently retired following a successful 40-year career as an educator in school orchestra and private studio settings. She is the director of the Society of Strings, an orchestra for intermediate level adult musicians, and is responsible for the orchestra program at Hiland Mountain Correctional Institution where there are three orchestras made up of approximately forty female inmates. Ms. Hoffer has been a member of the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra since 1974 and concertmaster since 1983. She also plays for the Anchorage Opera, Anchorage Concert Chorus and Alaska Chamber Singers. Honors include Music Educator of the Year from the Alaska Music Educators Association, BP Woman of Achievement, the Individual Artist Award in the Mayor's Arts Award program, and the American String Teachers Association Elizabeth A.H. Green School Educator Award.
