Biography

Mike Sfraga earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1984, a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University in 1986, and UAF’s first PhD in northern studies and geography in 1997. Sfraga has worked for UAF and the University of Alaska system since 1985 in a broad range of administrative, academic and executive positions. He currently serves as vice chancellor for university and student advancement and is professor of arctic policy in the School of Natural Resources and Extension. As vice chancellor, Sfraga oversees a broad range of programs, including student admissions and recruitment, alumni relations, athletics, career services, community and legislative affairs, development, disability services, DRAW (Department of Recreation, Adventure and Wellness), financial aid, health and counseling, international programs and initiatives, KUAC public television and radio, university relations, orientation, public events, registrar’s office, residence life, student activities and organizations, sustainability, veterans services, and the Wood Center student union.
