Daniel Lockley

Daniel Lockley has been studying Zimbabwean music for the last 26 years. What started as a casual after-school activity blossomed first into a passion, and ultimately into a career. Over the years, Daniel has performed with numerous ensembles including the Andé Marimba Band, Boka Marimba, Zimbira, and many more. Daniel started teaching during his time at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR when he joined the Ethos Music Center, working with the Portland Public Schools to bring marimba classes to underserved schools . Since then, he has performed and taught at festivals and workshops around the country and beyond. He currently lives in Santa Fe, NM with his wife and two children. Daniel’s teaching is grounded in the traditional and contemporary repertoire of Zimbabwe, but also focuses on many of the fundamentals of rhythm and melody/harmony shared by all types of music.
